Design Brief Final
Andrew Smith
Introduction
Conflict
I propose to design an advertisement campaign which’s aims to promote conflict in healthy terms.
Research
Conflict in the wider context has affected both large and small communities around the world. Conflict happens between groups of people that are separated by different political opinion, religion, ideas, values, interests, geography and within families.
As the generational hand down off information or stories becomes less accurate, this has a profound influence on the generations who haven’t lived through nor had the first hand experience of such conflict. People’s view of conflict can often be based on the misinformation and misconception of such stories.
The conflict in Northern Ireland over the past century or indeed centuries has shaped what we know as Northern Ireland and Ireland today. People have lost their lives, been injured, suffered discrimination and in some way it became a way of life which people accepted and endured.
Conflict can be seen as the outcome of the absence of an opportunity to share, and possibly change perspectives. Resolving conflicts may not always happen but there is always a starting point which requires having a conversation. Very often these can be difficult conversations to initiate. But often, the very people in these situations lack the means and skills of communication.
The aftermath of conflict can leave behind hatred and change within individual people and within a community of people. This could be due to the social, physical and mental attributes such as, loss of people, change in environment and indeed people’s mindsets.
Method
Viewer
Using creative ideas I intend to design an advertising campaign with the aim of promoting conflict in a healthy manner for individuals, groups, and cultures to live without violet conflict.  The campaign is aimed at both genders primarily aged from 16 to 26 years incorporating ethic groups and minorities. The target age could also target people outside the stated category age.
Business
Currently within the city there are groups set up to deal with conflict and ethnic minorities. Some of these groups may be interested in my advertising campaign to promote their group or organisation.
The campaign could be taken into a wider context of promoting a section of different organisations into one general campaign. This might be of interest as campaigns can be expensive to implement for one organisation on their own.
Free advertising issues or online advertising could be also be used to promote the campaign.
Grants or government schemes just provide monies for voluntary organisations, communities or ethnic groups could also be options for support.
Technology
Methods of technology could be considered for advertising etc such as printing methods, online or street art/ instalments.
Printing methods such as posters, leaflets, flyers, booklets, t-shirts, badges, shopping bags, billboards, on modes of transport, stickers etc could all be used to promote the campaign.
Online methods such as pop ups, advertising on web pages etc could enable a wider global audience of viewers.
Street instalments if permitted, such as projections on different buildings within the city at night, perhaps spontaneous acting/ dancing, text or images displayed around the city like a puzzle or just words.

Final outcome
From this project I hope to achieve a successful advertising campaign, which promotes conflict in a healthy way which can be used to promote good relations between a mix of cultural and ethnic groups within the city.
Personally I hope to gain a greater understanding of different conflicts past and present and how it affected different people within the city. I would like to acquire a better insight into the different ethnic groups and services within the city.
